Welcome to the Routes for all
mentor pages

Hello and Welcome to our Student Mentors Home Page!

Who are Routes for All Student Mentors?

Our Mentors help us to deliver The Routes for All programme to pupils in S5 and S6 of senior school, in schools all throughout the West of Scotland. Working with programme staff (Linzi, Clare and Alanna). The Mentors support in sessions both delivered in person and online for example on Microsoft Teams, Zoom or Google Classrooms.

Our Mentors are typically recruited into the UWS Student Ambassador Role and then diversify in the Mentor role. Please note that we do require all Mentors to become members of the PVG Scheme (The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership scheme is managed and delivered by Disclosure Scotland. It helps ensure people whose behaviour makes them unsuitable to work with children and protected adults cannot do 'regulated work' with these vulnerable groups). We will support you in the process of membership which can take a few weeks at busy times.

Our Mentors, can be of any age, from any course and will have a range of different experiences since leaving school. If you have previously studied at college before coming to university though, you may find it easier to share your experience with the pupils on our programme, who are considering college and university study.

How do I get involved?

Each year from the mid April to June, UWS will recruit for New Student Ambassadors for the following Academic Year (currently 2022/2023 beginning in August 2023). These vacancies will be promoted online and on social media- please keep an eye out for what to do when!

You will be asked to apply with an application form, shortlisted candidates will then be invited to an interview, and successful candidates invited to an induction session. Then you will progress with the varied work that being a UWS Student Ambassador involves but this is when you would diversify into the Routes for All work if it is of interest to you. We do encourage you to mention that you are interested in working with Routes for All at the application stage but we know sometimes that people will come to us after this initial stage when they have further information on the work available to them.
