Routes for All programme information
Scope of the Programme
The work of the programme begins in S5, pupils will be introduced to the Routes for All programme with an Introductory S5 Assembly. This will be delivered to the whole S5 year group and highlights the importance of college transition routes to university study (Using the Articulation Route) for those considering college as a first and back up to university choice. We aim to deliver this between Jan and June each year. With the S6 programme running from August to December each year.
Pupils will then progress to Part 2 of the S5 Programme which can consist of a double period in school session, or a campus day visit- or a combination of the two subject to the availability of facilities and facilitators.
Through the work that we do with S5 pupils we are providing them with:
- Information about applying to college, course options, entry requirements, and the benefits of going to college
- Guidance on the College to University- Articulation Route and current course pathways
- Career Planning and Goal Setting
- Exposure to a range of careers and industries
- Information on student life and the differences between school and college/ university
- Study skills
In S6 the Routes for All programme refreshes on the above and in addition:
• Provides a space for pupils to reflect on their skills and qualities
• Develop a Personal statement with feedback and support
• Receive Interview advice and mock interview practice
• Be provided with application support
• Be involved in Campus visits (subject to the availability of facilities and facilitators)
What is the format of the programme?
The Routes for All programme is tailored to the needs of each individual school, we will work with you to deliver the content of the programme so delivery fits flexibly into the senior school curriculum.
A typical delivery consists of Routes for All working with pupils in S6 for a block of 5 or 6 weeks, single periods. This is not fixed though and schools may request for double periods for example, half day sessions, or bi-weekly sessions depending on time available.
Currently, delivery of the S5 and S6 programme will is operating remotely online using either Zoom, Microsoft Teams (via GLOW) or Google Classrooms dependent on school accessibility. interactivity is brought to the sessions by the use of Mentimeter to respond to polls and questions in real time.
Any online delivery can be shown to multi devices or individual devices depending on the technology available in school. For example a video call presentation itself only needs to be displayed on one large screen to the pupils, and they can then use their mobile phones, iPads or laptops to respond to the interspersed Mentimeter slides.
The S6 programme will include live video calls and pupils will have activities to complete
in their own time via the nominated learning platform. The activities will help them to prepare for their application, so that they are ready to submit their applications when the college portals open in January.
Further support is always available to pupils to support them with their personal statements and college interviews.
What is your role as a teacher in supporting the programme delivery?
We kindly ask that teachers:
- Target pupils who are anticipated to achieve 1-3 Highers by the end of S6.
- Additionally highlight the support the programme can offer to those pupils who are care experienced, a young carer, have refugee status, or are an asylum seeker
- Help us to provide a 2 year programme to S5 pupils, who will then continue with us in S6
- Help to ensure pupils are registered for all aspects necessary for the programme
- Provide participant lists/ encourage sign up to the dedicated learning platform in use
- Facilitate the provision of class room allocation for delivery when required
- Facilitate the provision of live sessions at agreed times
- Contact the Routes for all Team if any changes to the school's programme is required
- Provide us programme feedback on an annual basis
- Update us of any changes as related to maintaining a programme and teacher contact throughout the school year.
